Jay 9.3.19

Hey, my name is Jay and I am a passionate TMYL tennis player. When I first started playing tennis with TMYL I had a difficult time getting a single ball over the net and I would get so frustrated. My skills have grown over the years. Now that I have progressed in my skills and I have gotten older, I don’t get frustrated that easily unless I miss an easy shot.

On Saturday June 1st, I had the opportunity to play in the middle school team tournament while I was in fourth grade. We did this match against a bunch of other teams. They were all older than me. One coach said that I had a good forehand. That day I thought so too. After one of my shots almost hit a person with a fast ball. I won that point. Sadly, I am still sore from that day.

I was so excited for the summer program because it is one of my favorite programs of the year.  Not only do we play a lot of tennis we also go on field trips every Friday, my favorite part of the whole thing!! Unfortunately last year and this year I missed the first two weeks due to school. I’m also excited for the end-of-summer tournament because I can finally hit serves. Most important I don’t want to forget about the water fight, which was my favorite 😊, I targeted coaches Tate and Gigi last year. This year my target was Coach Ben and Gigi. We had the water fight on the last day and I tried to get them soaking wet. At the water fight a firetruck came and sprayed us. I got soaking wet and I also forgot a towel ☹. So, my resolution was to sun dry.

Jay and Naomi Osaka!

On August 13th we went on this amazing TMYL bus trip to Cincinnati, OH to the Western & Southern Open. We got to see a lot of amazing players in real time. This included players such as Naomi Osaka, Madison Keys, Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep, Venus Williams, Sofia Kenin, Danill Medvedev, Novak Djokovic and so many more. It was extremely awesome. I got a signed ball from Madison Keys and Naomi Osaka (I also got a picture with them).

Jay and Madison Keys!

Madison Keys won the Western Southern, which was extremely exciting for me since I wanted her to win. Overall, it was an amazing experience. I hope I get invited to more things like this.

This trip has changed me a lot - it has changed how I spend my free time because I find myself wanting to play tennis all the time. This past week I have been watching the US Open.

  1. That is so awesome! I loved being able to go on the trip (and appreciated that it was so affordable for me to be able to go as well) and see the excitement on the kids faces the entire weekend! Thank you to all the supporters that make trips like this possible!
