We’ve got a fresh new look!
TMYL is still TMYL, but we’re excited to share that our brand has been refreshed with a new logo, updated visuals, and a clearer name meaning. Our acronym isn’t changing, but TMYL now stands for Teaching & Mentoring Young Leaders.
If you’re part of the TMYL community, you already know this is what we’ve always been about. We teach, we mentor, we build confidence, and we create opportunities for young people to grow on and off the court. This refresh simply helps new families, supporters, and the broader Lansing/mid-Michigan community understand our mission more quickly and clearly.
Most importantly, TMYL isn’t changing at its core. Our programs, our team, and the community you know and love are all still here, doing what we do best. And Todd Martin is still a beloved part of this organization, and this refresh was completed with his full support and encouragement.
As Todd shared in his own words, “33 years after its founding, I’m thrilled for TMYL to reach this milestone. Our rebranding is a story of progress and purpose, and will be the best representation of the service we provide to the community. Personally, I look forward to continuing my participation in TMYL’s work with our wonderful youth.”
We’re grateful for the foundation he built and the impact that continues, today and into the future.
Learn, Play, Serve!
OUR MISSION
Teaching & Mentoring Young Leaders exists to create communities where young people are supported, confident, and prepared to succeed in every aspect of life, by providing innovative tennis, education, life skills, and leadership development programming.
WHAT WE DO
education
Education plays a crucial role in a kid’s life. At TMYL, we want to help set the youth of Lansing up for a bright future by providing academic tutoring that will bolster their confidence and create opportunity.
Community
We strive to provide a sense of community, belonging, and support to our Lansing youth, creating an environment where our participants can learn, grow, and achieve.
physical activity
Physical activity is not only important for the physical health of Lansing youth, but also mental and emotional health. We provide a safe space where kids can play tennis and build their growing skillsets.
WHY WE DO IT
Students in the Lansing School District are full of creativity and endless potential. But due to systemic barriers, their standardized test scores have fallen over the past decade and are losing ground every year compared with their peers around the country. TMYL strives to shrink that gap through our tutoring and tennis programs.
The gaps in academic performance in Lansing vs Statewide can be seen in the tables below:
